Celebrities Who’ve Had Skin Cancer


Being a celebrity doesn’t mean that your skin is immune to cancer, despite how clear one’s complexion can appear on camera. Recent studies have shown that every year cancer kills about three million Americans. The estimated survival rate for patients who have been diagnosed with melanoma in the early stages is approximately 99 percent. The survival rate drastically falls to 66 percent when the cancer reaches the lymph nodes and dramatically to 27 percent when the disease metastasizes to the body’s distant organs.

The list below shows celebrities who have suffered from various skin cancers, ranging from precancerous spots to deadly melanin, and those who have cured from it.


Khloe Kardashian

Khloe has always been outspoken about her experience with skin cancer. During a meeting she had with Hollywood Medium, she said she had removed two skin cancers and goes for her skin exams every three months. There was a day she shared everything about with all her social media followers and advised them to attend skin check ups regularly.

“I promise I’ll still have some. But my back made me so insecure. I look like a Dalmatian lol just toning it down. I’ve had it twice before. Everything is fine, and I get everything checked every three months. I actually thrive off information, so I can do something about it.”

Huge Jackman

Jackman is an Australian actor that has shared with his fans the struggles he had with skin cancer. He has had four skin cancer surgery to remove his carcinogen cells in a span of eighteen months. He is well known for his portrait of Wolverine in the popular X-Men movies. He always advises his fans on social media about the importance of regular skin exams and sun protection.

When Keaton was 21 years old, she was diagnosed with a skin cancer disease called “basal cell carcinoma”, resulting in her removing a squamous cell carcinoma from her face. With all the experience she passed through having skin cancer, she said at an event hosted by a cosmetic company that she never wore a sunblock, but was always tried tanning.

“I remember my Auntie Martha had skin cancer so bad they removed her nose.” Keaton is faithful about wearing sunblock year-round. “My father had basal skin cancer and my brother had it. It’s tricky with this skin cancer.

Brooke Shields is a popular actress, model and once a sun lover, admitted that she once had a pre-cancerous spot removed from her face in May 2009. She’s now a spokesperson for a Coppertone product that has both face lotion and sunscreen combined together.

I had a spot on my face. The doctor scraped it, and it turned out to be precancerous. I was scared.

She now realizes the damage the sun can do to your skin unprotected and has warned her teenage daughters the importance of sunscreen.


Ewan McGregor

In 2008, the scottish actor McGregor almost caused everyone to panic thinking that a cosmetic procedure was done when he removed a birthmark on his forehead. He later came out to explain that he had removed various suspicion of lesions for test of skin cancer. When the result of the test came out it was discovered that one, below his eye was a skin cancer.

“I had a little skin cancer under my eye,” the 37-year-old star told BBC Television in an interview to promote his latest film, the erotic thriller “Deception.” “I just went to have them (the moles) checked … I went to to see a specialist who thought they were better to be removed and indeed he was correct.”

Bob Marley

It began as a dark spot on Bob Marley’s toenail that he believed he got it from a soccer injury. Unfortunately, the spot turned out to be acral lentiginous (a form of skin cancer that was very aggressive, because it is discovered later than other forms of skin cancer disease). Doctors had advised him to amputate his toe but as a true Rastafarian who believes that his body is his temple, he opted to have skin grafted instead but the cancer had already spread throughout his body and died on May 11, 1981 in Miami, Florida.

His body was flown back to Jamaica and he had a state funeral on May 21, 1981. Bob Marley had 11 children and his last words were: “Money can’t buy life.” Sadly The loss of the famous Jamaican musician remind us that whatever our race may be, anyone are liable to contact any skin disease.


Andy Cohen

Andy Cohen a popular author, producer, and a talk show host own a channel called Radio Andy. He published his second memoir called “The Andy Cohen Diaries” on November 2014. He became a father on February 4, 2019 and named his son Benjamin Allen Cohen. He said that after his celebrity friend Kelly Ripa advised him to go a check up for a suspicious spot on his lip of which he did and discovered that it was skin cancer. He removed the melanoma on his lip. He also said his relationship with the sun changed after that experience.


James Rebhorn

Rebhorn a popular American actor who has featured in more than 100 films and television series suffered from melanoma. Though in 1992, he had earlier been diagnosed of it. Melanoma its the deadliest form of skin cancer of which few treatments are available for it. He died in 2014 have a long battle of skin cancer. At that time he had an recurring role in the series “Homeland” and films like “My Cousin Vinny”, “Scent of a Woman” etc.


Michelle Monaghan

Michelle featured in 2006, featured in movie “Mission: Impossible III. In 2011, she told the health magazine that she had earlier suffered from skin cancer. This happened when her husband insisted she should go for a check up for the mole on her calf of which turned out been cancerous.

Its important every year one should meet a dermatologist to screen for skin cancer. Because the dermatologist would be able to check for hidden areas like in between the toes or under the fingernails.


Anderson Cooper

During the campaign trail of then-senator Barack Obama in 2008, a journalist named Anderson Cooper told the CNN.com blog that he had gone through surgery to remove the “small spot of skin cancer” under his left eye. Skin cancer would occur if the face is often exposed to the sun. In 2012, Cooper became temporarily blind (keratitis) for not putting on a sunglasses on a boat trip in Portugal.

Donal Logue

Logue, an Irish actor, is known for the roles he played in TV shows like the “sons of Anarchy and Vikings” in 2013, noticed that the reddish bump he had earlier removed from his scalp had appeared again. After conducting a biopsy it was said that he suffers squamous cell carcinoma that had already penetrated the underlying tissues, his dermatologist told him he would have to undergo a surgery to instantly.

Logue says he would be extra careful in the future and always check for any spot and try as much as possible to not to stay under sun or wear sunscreens when he can’t. He also wished if he could go back in time and warn the young boy he once was the danger of playing under hot sun without protection.

In 1998, Troy was diagnosed of early-stage melanoma. He went for surgery to remove the suspicious mole from his back. It was his 2 sisters who are nurses informed him about the mole and get it checked.

Cybill Shepherd

Cybill an American actress, was born in the year 1950. She performed on shows like “Moonlighting” and “Cybill”. She shared her experience as a child of how she allowed to sunbath of which resulted in her having skin cancer growth and removed it in 2002. Been aware of the effects of the sun and how it can lead to imminent skin cancer, she covers herself whenever she goes out.

When Cybill was young, she went out in the sun a lot. We lived near a lake, and she used to bake in the sun on a dock, applying lots of suntan oil. Cybill makes sure she covers herself from head to toe whenever she goes out into the hot sun of the San Fernando Valley where she lives.

Griffith, known as the star of “Working Girl” is an American actress who started her career in 1970. Griffith is a philanthropist and has help raised funds for different hospital community project. She shared her experience off how she removed skin cancer from her face which made her have bruises on her eyes. She detected the cancer early so that was great news for her.

Carson was just 22 years old when she had melanoma on her foot. Her father also suffered from this same skin cancer. Ever since then she has always talked about the importance of early detection and encouraged people to go for regular skin exams.

Even though you are a top Hollywood star or what position you hold, anyone can get skin cancer. Carson story reminds us of the need of having regular skin exams. Remember to always book an appointment with your dermatologist because early detection is always the best
